For Jewelry Collectors

Collectors of Art jewelry might be interested in this piece currently offered on eBay. It's a Neiman Marcus collar and exhibits design qualities of the modern art tradition. Made entirely of leather, the item was meant to be worn as a collar or a piece of jewelry. It is a good example of the changing direction of artists towards individual expression in adornment. Note the humor in the piece: The hands are pointing towards the neckline as if to say "What do you think?" (ie about a piece of jewelry being worn).

Alexandra Zonis

Perhaps you've seen her beadwork? Beautiful textiles woven in glass...A collection Alexandra Zonis calls "Magic Carpets". This talented artist uses Delica beads to create tapestries reminiscent of the beautiful kilims and textile designs of the Middle East. Each tapestry takes hundreds of hours to complete. All are loom woven, each warp thread tied off by weaving back into the tapestry, a hugely time consuming process. I especially like the yellow Moroccan Tapestry which is due to be finished this spring. To see her work, click on the title above. You can also read more about her design process by clicking HERE. I hope you are inspired!

Ringing in the New Year

To ring in the New Year (note: pun intended) I thought you'd enjoy watching a video of an art installation. The installation is a staircase entitled "Tuned Stairs" which appeared at the Fabrica exhibition at the Center Pompidou in Paris, France. Not only can you hear the bells ring, but you can watch the creation of this ingenious piece. Click on the title above and enjoy! (To read more about the artist, Daniel Hirschmann, click HERE)
